It's impossible to think of France without imagining yourself at the quintessential Gallic cafe, enjoying all of the culinary charms that our friends over the Channel have to offer.  The good news is that now you don't actually have to take that journey to recreate this kind of dining experience.  Cafe Rouge have just launched a new and exciting menu introducing some fantastic French classics.  The new Les Grillades section now showcases dishes fresh from the char grill including a succulent half roast chicken infused with garlic and thyme, as well as the favourite Steak Frites all served with crunchy French fries, crispy watercress and melting garlic and herb butter.  The 'Poissons' section of the menu has also been expanded to include a hearty Dieppoise fish casserole along side a beautiful dish of Dory fillets served with a creamy herb mash and traditional petit pois a la Francis - the prefect remedy to a cold British evening!

Breakfast is a delight with the obligatory croissants and pain aux raisins on the menu, however there are also some suprises with scrambled eggs and smoked salmon on toasted brioche and savoury pancakes filled with mushrooms making an appearance.

 

Of course, for lunch and dinner the old French classics are ever-present and the starters immediately transport you into a little Gallic bistro with onion soup, deep fried camembert, mussels and Britany pancakes filled with smoked haddock, all on offer.  You can then move onto smoked Toulouse sausages, beef Bourguignon or the classic steak frites, before wrapping up your meal wiht one of the delightful desserts on offer.

 

If you fancy something lighter there is a myriad of salads to choose from, including goats cheese, spicy Merguez sausage and classic Ceasar as well as sandwiches such as famous Croque Monsieur and chargrilled steak and chicken baguettes.

 

Put all of this together with some fantastic wines and a varied children's menuto keep the little one's happy, and you'll be glad you tried a taste of France at this fantastic quayside location - even if it's just for a little while.  Bon Appetit!!!
